Sally B. Simpson

Sally B. Simpson is a passionate photographer based in the Midwest who has been photographing since the mid-1990s. Her love for the outdoors, wildlife and nature can be seen throughout her work.

Walking, hiking or kayaking with her camera close by, she captures the beauty of her surroundings with a quiet eloquence that holds up at any scale.

She earned an AFA with an emphasis in photography in 2007, has been published, and has exhibited in juried art shows across Missouri. She is a proud member of Women in Focus, the St. Louis-based photographers' group.

Every Illuminautica piece begins as a real photograph, never a generated image. Illuminautica studies each of Sally’s photographs the way a painter would, then repaints it stroke by stroke into a barely-moving composition that evolves rather than performs. Finished pieces are pre-licensed for commercial digital signage.
